WHO ARE WE?

Welcome, my name is Theresa L. Rushlow, owner/operator of BOBBLES & BEADS. I have been designing jewelry for a few years now, after much thought I decided to open my own bead shop. If you are in the Dayton area please stop by and say “HI”. I can’t even explain the pure joy of taking a handful of beads and turning them into a beautiful piece of jewelry, I’m hoping the shop brings this joy to others. I will still try to do a few shows each year but my main focus will be operating the shop. In my spare time, I’ll be creating new things so feel free to stop by the shop often and check out the new stuff.

MY DAUGHTER, BONNIE SEVERT, assists me at the shop. SHE IS REALLY EASY TO SPOT, JUST A YOUNGER LOOKING VERSION OF ME! ANY HOW SINCE SHE IS THE ONE THAT GOT ME STARTED IN THIS CRAZY WORLD OF BEADING, IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT SHE IS So willing to help me out AT THE BEAD SHOP. SHE LITERALLY WORKS FOR BEADS. SHE IS ACTUALLY A MUCH BETTER BEADER THAN I, SHE DOES SUCH BEAUTIFUL WEAVING, IF I ONLY HAD HER PATIENCE. SINCE SHE JUST RECENTLY HAD A BABY (MY FIRST GRANDCHILD), SHE DOESN’T HAVE MUCH TIME TO BEAD ANYMORE BUT SHE WILL GET BACK TO IT SOON, YOU KNOW YOU CAN’T STAY AWAY FROM THE BEADS TO LONG.

MY HUSBAND, KEITH, DESERVES AN HONORABLE MENTION BECAUSE WITHOUT HIS SUPPORT I COULDN’T KEEP THE SHOP UP AND RUNNING. YOU MAY EVEN CATCH HIM BEHIND THE COUNTER EVERY NOW AND THEN, so if you do be kind and don’t ask too many how to questions.

WHO MAKES ALL THE JEWELRY!

The finished jewelry is either made myself, my daughter (BONNI’S BEADS) OR MY good friend, Lin Rich, YOU MAY ALSO FIND ONE OR TWO OF MY CUSTOMER’S PIECES AS WELL.

Do you sell wholesale?

I am strictly retail, but since I was a jewelry peddler once, I do understand that many of my customers have vendor’s license, if you provide me with a copy of your vendor’s license for my files, you WILL HAVE THE OPTION OF BEING SALES TAX EXEMPT.

Why does the shop have such weird hours?

At the present time it just isn’t realistic for me to give up my day job, as much as I would like to just play with my beads all day. So by day I’m a government worker and by night and weekend I’m a bead shop owner, Hence, the odd hours. You will also note that I occasionally just have to close THE shop, not only do I have a day job but I have a family and an extended furry family (my dogs) that I have to tend to every now and then or they get cranky. I usually try to post the days I will be closed way ahead of time, but from time to time obligations call and I just have to close.

Can I buy beads on the internet?

Currently I don’t have time to keep up an internet store front, so you can only purchase the beads at the shop. I had hoped to have the inventory added to the web site for purchase last year but time seemed to get away from me. Oh, there are plenty of on-line stores to shop from, BUT it is so much better to look at the beads in person don’t you think.

Can I buy special orders or finished pieces?

Finished jewelry is available at the shop and special requests are always accepted. Hopefully, this will also be available on the internet soon but alas I have that day job and family thing to contend with.

Is your dog friendly?

IF YOU’VE BEEN IN THE SHOP YOU MAY HAVE RAN INTO ONE OF MY DOGS, THAT WOULD BE RUDY? YES, HE IS FRIENDLY HE JUST LOOKS INTIMIDATING. HE MAY SLOBBER ALL OVER YOU BUT HE IS THE SWEETEST THING THERE IS. HE IS ALSO A MAMA’S DOG, SO SOMETIMES I BREAK DOWN AND BRING HIM ALONG BECAUSE I JUST CAN’T STAND THOSE PUPPY DOG EYES LOOKING ALL NEGLECTED. YOU WILL MORE THAN LIKELY NOT MEET THE OTHER dog, COURTNEY BECAUSE she WOULD BE BORED TO TEARS AT THE SHOP. RUDY ON THE OTHER HAND IS A COUCH POTATO (OR FLOOR, OR BED, OR CHAIR); BASICALLY HE IS AS LAZY AS THEY COME SO HE IS HAPPY JUST LOUNGING AT THE SHOP WITH ME.

WE OFFER A VARIETY OF BEAD WEAVING kits and instructions, BUT IF YOU ARE JUST STUCK ON SOMETHING OR WOULD LIKE SOME ASSISTANCE THEN BY ALL MEANS STOP BY AND ASK. THE BEST NIGHT TO DO THIS IS ON a wednesday NIGHT BUT ME OR BONNIE ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST YOU. JUST DON’T ASK KEITH, HE’S SWEET, BUT A BEADER HE IS NOT.

CAN I JUST COME IN AND MAKE SOMETHING?

Yes, as long as there isn’t a class scheduled, there is always table space available. If you just want to design something yourself and have us string it for you, that is ok too! Please note there is a nominal stringing fee that begins at $5, in addition to the material used.
